PROJECT OUTPUTS

The basic need of the project is improving the quality of life in child patients suffering from asthma and non-specific inflammation diseases. Also necessary is identification of factors that may improve the diagnostics and affect the drug response.

The task which the project adopts in order to fulfil the basic need is formulated as follows: improving our knowledge of mechanisms affecting the therapy response with the subsequent outlook for optimisation of the therapy on the basis of the genomic and expressional analysis.
The results achieved by the project will include: establishing the pharmacogenomic profile of the patient suffering from asthma or inflammatory bowel diseases, as well as assessment of the therapy response. Assessment of the expressional profile for specifically defined populations of lymphocytes which participate in the inflammatory response.

The outcome is:

  1. Isolation of specific cellular subpopulations, most often lymphocytes of the peripheral blood, participating in the inflammatory response with the aid of a method which will not affect their life span and expressional profile.
  2. Identification of parameters affecting cells’ drug response. Establishing the expressional and genomic profiles of the isolated cellular subpopulations.
  3. Implementation of diagnostics and pharmacogenomic profiling into therapy protocols.

The prerequisites necessary for successful implementation of the project are:

  • Instrumentation:  high-speed sorter based on the flow cytometry.
equipment for comprehensive expressional and genomic analysis,
including introduction of the respective methodologies.
  • Qualified personnel

Supported by grant from Island, Lichtenstein  a Norway in the frame of Financial mechanism EHP.
